What is VCI anti-corrosion tehcnlogy ?

La technologie VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) repose sur l’émission d’inhibiteurs volatils de corrosion contenus dans différents supports d’emballage.

Ces molécules protectrices se diffusent dans l’air et créent une protection anticorrosion en phase vapeur autour des pièces. Elles forment une barrière moléculaire qui empêche les réactions d’oxydation responsables de la corrosion.

Les solutions VpCI Cortec se présentent sous plusieurs formes afin de répondre aux différentes contraintes industrielles :

  • VpCI-126 film and VCI covers for protecting machinery or industrial equipment
  • VCI anti-corrosion paper
  • VCI pouch or VCI bag for small parts

How does VCI corrosion protection work ?

CORTEC VpCI-126® anti-corrosion film is available as a co-extruded (three-layer) or mono-extruded (single-layer) polyethylene film.

VCI corrosion protection works by releasing inhibitor molecules into an enclosed space.

When VpCI-126 films, VCI pouches, or VCI anti-corrosion paper are placed in an enclosed space, the corrosion inhibitors diffuse into the air in vapor form.

The VCI molecules then settle on metal surfaces and form an invisible protective barrier. This molecular layer blocks the chemical reactions that cause material corrosion, particularly those caused by :

  • Humidity
  • oxygene
  • airborne contaminants

VCI corrosion protection also works in hard-to-reach areas, such as cavities, threads, bores, and the internal parts of equipment.

VCI anti-corrosion solutions offer numerous advantages over traditional protection methods that use anti-corrosion oils or greases.

Clean and dry protection

Unlike oil-based treatments, VCI films, VCI anti-corrosion paper, and VCI bags leave no residue on parts.

This allows for the replacement of the greases, oils, or desiccants typically used to prevent corrosion. As a result, it eliminates the need for greasing and degreasing operations.

Once the package is opened, the protected components can be used immediately without any cleaning or degreasing.

VCI anti-corrosion protection

As part of an industrial preservation project, our teams have implemented a comprehensive VCI protection solution.

To protect sensitive equipment, the installation included :

  • the construction of a wooden frame of approximately 400 m³ to serve as a supporting structure.

  • the manufacture of the casing using high-frequency and thermal welding to ensure a perfect seal
  • the addition of VCI PMUC Biopad® corrosion-inhibiting foam within a radius of approximately one meter

This system creates a protected environment that provides protection against corrosion.

This ensures that the parts are protected during periods of extended storage or when industrial facilities are shut down.
