Anti-corrosion contact protectors

graisse anticorrosion VCI

In many industrial sectors, metal equipment is exposed to moisture, salty atmospheres, and temperature fluctuations. These conditions promote corrosion and can lead to the deterioration of the equipment.

For certain applications, vapor protection using anti-corrosion VCI packaging cannot be used. Anti-corrosion VCI contact protection involves applying VCI products (VCI grease, VCI oil, VCI coatings) directly to parts and equipment.

They are used to prevent oxidation and rust during storage, transport, maintenance, or downtime.

Used in a variety of industries (Energy, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Offshore, etc.), these VCI solutions help preserve product integrity and extend service life.

How does VCI anti-corrosion contact protection work?

VCI anti-corrosion oils

VCI anti-corrosion contact protectants contain vapour-phase corrosion inhibitors. These protective VCI molecules are contained in liquid or solid carriers (VCI grease, VCI oil, VCI coating, etc.).

The product is applied directly to the metal itself. Once applied, the molecules in the product diffuse around the parts to form an invisible protective layer.

This coating prevents the electrochemical reactions responsible for oxidation and protects metals from moisture and corrosive agents.

The various types of VCI anti-corrosion contact protectors

VCI Anti-Corrosion Oils

VCI anti-corrosion oils form an oily film that protects surfaces from moisture by acting as a corrosion inhibitor.

VCI anti-corrosion lubricants can reach hard-to-access areas on surfaces that are not in direct contact with the oil. More economical and environmentally friendly, they help reduce the amount of lubricating oil used to protect internal components.

They provide effective protection for many metals, including steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and copper.

VCI anti-corrosion oils are often compatible with machine operating oils. A machine can be started up without prior degreasing, since VCI oil also serves as a running-in lubricant.

VCI anti-corrosion greases

VCI anti-corrosion grease

VCI grease offers dual-action protection, combining a hydrophobic physical barrier with active chemical protection.

Unlike conventional grease, which simply insulates the metal, VCI grease continuously releases volatile corrosion inhibitors . They attach themselves to the metal to form an invisible molecular shield.

This mechanism provides what is known as ‘self-healing’ protection . If the grease film is scratched or displaced during handling, the VCI molecules naturally migrate to the exposed area. They instantly reform the protective layer, thereby preventing rust from setting in within crevices or complex threads.

VCI greases are used on surfaces requiring a thicker and more durable protective layer than that provided by oil.

Thanks to their excellent grip , they remain in place even in harsh environments. They offer excellent resistance to moisture, water and corrosive atmospheres.

VCI anti-corrosion coatings

VCI coatings—VCI varnishes or anti-corrosion VCI coatings—are coatings that form a protective film against corrosion. The VCI coating acts as a barrier against salt spray and corrosive atmospheres. In addition, the integrated VCI inhibitors protect areas not directly covered, such as cavities or confined spaces.

Depending on the application, the VCI coating may take the form of a dry film, a waxy or oily film, or a coating that is easy to remove.

, they remain in place even in harsh environments. They offer excellent resistance to moisture, water and corrosive atmospheres.
